Spain's Central Electoral Board investigates Pedro Sánchez

Spain’s Central Electoral Board (JEC) has opened a disciplinary proceeding against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez following a complaint by the opposition People’s Party (PP). The investigation concerns a press conference held on October 6 at the Moncloa headquarters, shortly after Sánchez called for snap elections on November 29.

The PP alleges that Sánchez used government facilities and resources to deliver campaign-style messages, including praising government achievements and criticizing political opponents, which violates the requirement for political neutrality during election periods. The JEC has requested the removal of the controversial statements from official government channels and instructed the Prime Minister to refrain from similar actions during the campaign.

Sánchez faces potential fines of up to 3,000 euros. He has a history of electoral sanctions, having previously received four fines totaling 6,600 euros for similar violations of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG).

In a separate but related political development, Sánchez held a campaign rally in Fuenlabrada, where he was accompanied by his wife, Begoña Gómez. During the event, Sánchez expressed public support for Gómez, who is currently awaiting trial regarding allegations of embezzlement and influence peddling.
