Pedro Sánchez to visit La Línea as Gibraltar fence removal reshapes border

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is scheduled to visit La Línea de la Concepción on Monday, 13 July, ahead of the planned removal of the Gibraltar border fence on 15 July. Mayor Juan Franco confirmed ongoing coordination with the Gibraltar government on practical matters such as access routes and the acquisition of municipal land, describing the fence removal as a historic moment for the town and its cross‑border residents.

In a separate incident, Gibraltar authorities detained two Spanish residents from La Línea, aged 20 and 23, after a maritime chase that began near the Moroccan coast and ended in Gibraltar’s regulated waters. The men were charged with reckless vessel operation, entering a restricted zone and obstructing police, and will face the Court of Magistrates in Gibraltar.
