Pedro Sánchez releases campaign video at Reina Sofía Museum
Spanish Prime Minister and PSOE candidate Pedro Sánchez has released a campaign video filmed at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. In the footage, Sánchez stands before Pablo Picasso’s ‘Guernica’ to defend his administration’s anti-war stance and its commitment to social welfare.
Sánchez uses the symbolism of the painting to argue that his government has maintained consistent principles across international conflicts, asserting that ‘no war is inevitable’ and that Spain has refused to prioritize military spending over the welfare state. He specifically highlighted his government’s decision to reject increasing military expenditure to 5% of GDP and its denunciation of the genocide in Gaza.
The video, released via his social media profile ahead of the general elections scheduled for November 29, has drawn criticism from the People's Party (PP). PP Secretary General Miguel Tellado accused Sánchez of misappropriating the artwork and using public resources for a pre-campaign political advertisement.
