Pedro Trapote faces new trial over alleged tax fraud

The Provincial Court of Madrid has overturned an acquittal of businessman Pedro Trapote, ordering a new trial regarding allegations of tax fraud. Trapote, a prominent figure in Madrid’s nightlife known for founding Pachá and Joy Eslava and owning the historic San Ginés chocolate shop, is accused of defrauding more than 500,000 euros in Corporate Tax through one of his companies.

The legal battle stems from investigations into tax irregularities involving VAT and Corporate Tax between 2013 and 2017. While Trapote previously accepted a prison sentence in 2022 related to a separate VAT case, this current proceeding seeks to address the larger corporate tax allegations. The court's decision to repeat the trial follows a long-standing legal dispute that began with tax agency inspections in 2016.
