Peekskill man arrested for animal cruelty in Westchester grooming incident

Cole Kamrath of Peekskill, New York, has been arrested following an animal cruelty incident at Dogtopia of Mount Kisco in Westchester County. The arrest follows the release of security footage showing Kamrath violently slamming a 14-year-old senior dog, Milo, onto a grooming table during a nail trimming appointment on July 26, 2026.

Milo’s owner reported that the dog exhibited abnormal behavior, including loss of appetite, excessive sleeping, and difficulty walking, after the appointment. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed bruising along the dog's torso, indicative of recent trauma. The security video reportedly shows the dog losing consciousness during the incident.

Dogtopia has terminated Kamrath’s employment. SPCA Westchester CEO Shannon Laukhuf described the act as “deeply disturbing,” noting the cruelty was captured on video and reported to the SPCA’s HLE Unit.
