Peenestrom Bridge construction advances in Wolgast

Construction of the new Peenestrom Bridge in Wolgast has reached a new phase. Approximately two and a half months after the official start of construction, concrete work has begun on the first pillars above the foundation on the mainland side.

The project is part of the Wolgast bypass, the largest road construction project in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with an estimated budget exceeding 500 million euros. The 1.4-kilometer-long cable-stayed bridge will feature 70-meter-high pylons and is expected to be the largest of its kind in Europe. Completion of the bypass is currently projected for late 2029.

In addition to the main bridge, the project includes a 4.5 million euro underpass near Kölpinsee on Usedom designed to facilitate otter crossings and reduce animal fatalities on the B111 federal highway.
