Peer Koopmeiners to extend contract with AZ Alkmaar
Peer Koopmeiners is set to sign a contract extension with AZ Alkmaar following the collapse of a potential transfer to Club Brugge. The 26-year-old midfielder and the club have reached a verbal agreement on a one-year extension that will secure his stay at the AFAS Stadion until mid-2029.
Club Brugge had reportedly made multiple bids for the player, with the highest reaching approximately 13 million euros. However, AZ Alkmaar remained firm in their refusal to sell. Koopmeiners expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "We are for both parties to something beautiful came," despite noting it was disappointing to miss the opportunity to play in the Champions League with the Belgian champions.
The extension will also include an improved salary for the player. This development follows similar contract renewal efforts by the club, such as Wouter Goes, who has already signed a new deal.
