Pegcetacoplan shows efficacy in treating kidney disease in adolescents
New clinical data indicates that pegcetacoplan may effectively treat C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) and primary immune complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (IC-MPGN) in adolescents. According to a subgroup analysis from the phase 3 VALIANT trial published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, adolescents treated with pegcetacoplan achieved a 75% relative reduction in proteinuria compared to a placebo by week 26.
Real-world observational studies further support these findings, showing that pegcetacoplan is associated with rapid and sustained reductions in proteinuria, stable or improved kidney function, and normalization of serum C3 in both pediatric and adult patients who had not responded to conventional therapies.
Other nephrology research highlights include the use of lumasiran to stabilize kidney transplant function in patients with primary hyperoxaluria type 1, and the identification of preoperative serum alkaline phosphatase as a potential biomarker for predicting arteriovenous fistula maturation failure in hemodialysis patients.
