Peggy Flanagan disputes report regarding Phi Beta Kappa honors

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan has disputed a Wall Street Journal report claiming she misrepresented her academic honors. The report noted that university records from 2002, the year Flanagan graduated from the University of Minnesota, do not list her as a recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa honor.

Flanagan addressed the discrepancy during a FOX 9 interview, stating the reporting was inaccurate. She explained that while she graduated in the spring of 2002, she was inducted into the honor society in September of that year. She suggested the discrepancy arose because the graduation program did not reflect her membership at the time of the ceremony and stated she would provide documentation to support her account.

A spokesperson for Flanagan’s campaign previously told the Wall Street Journal that while she was nominated for the honor, she was unable to join at the time due to the cost of application fees.
