Peggy Webber, prolific radio actress, dies at 100

Peggy Webber, a prolific radio actress known for her extensive work during the Golden Age of Radio, has died at the age of 100. She passed away on Saturday from natural causes at an independent living facility in Napa, California, according to her son, Rob Sinskey.

Webber’s career spanned thousands of radio episodes, including notable roles in ‘The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’, ‘The Story of Dr. Kildare’, and ‘The Man Called X’. She also performed a serialized version of ‘Casablanca’ for NBC Radio. In the television and radio procedural ‘Dragnet’, she famously portrayed Ma Friday, the mother of Jack Webb’s character, Joe Friday.

Her film credits included working with Orson Welles on his 1948 adaptation of ‘Macbeth’, where she played a glamorous version of Lady Macduff, and appearing in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 film ‘The Wrong Man’.
