Pehlivanköy hosts 116th Pavli Panayırı cultural fair

The 116th Pavli Panayırı, a historic autumn livestock and commodity fair, has officially commenced in the Pehlivanköy district of Kırklareli. With roots tracing back to 1910 during the Ottoman era, the event is recognized as one of Turkey’s oldest fairs.

The opening ceremony at Zübeyde Hanım Square was attended by Kırklareli Governor Uğur Turan, local mayors, political representatives, and numerous citizens. The festivities included performances by military bands, folk dance groups, and traditional mehter teams.

A notable long-standing tradition of the fair involves visitors from surrounding villages and different regions converting their tractor trailers into makeshift “hotels.” These visitors bring bedding and daily necessities to stay in their trailers for the duration of the four-day event.

The fair features various stalls including amusement park rides, food and beverage stands, and shops selling clothing and gifts. Local officials noted that the increasing number of participants and vendors each year helps preserve the cultural fabric of the region for future generations.
