Peixoto de Azevedo mayor faces asset freeze and partial removal

The Mato Grosso Court of Justice (TJMT) has unanimously upheld a decision to freeze the assets of Nilmar Nunes de Miranda, the mayor of Peixoto de Azevedo, up to the amount of R$ 1,553,123.94. The ruling also maintains his partial removal from duties related to public health management.

The decision follows a request by the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) regarding an administrative improbity lawsuit. The asset freeze is a preventive measure intended to ensure potential reimbursement to public funds if damages are confirmed at the conclusion of the legal process.

Judges determined that the partial removal from health administration functions is necessary to preserve evidence and prevent interference in the investigation. The court noted several risks to the judicial process, including the dismissal of a witness who reported irregularities and the appointment of an individual linked to contract oversight to the position of Municipal Health Secretary.
