Peja stabbing reignites Elshani–Kelmendi family conflict

A stabbing incident in Peja involving two minors has reignited attention on the long-standing and violent feud between the Elshani and Kelmendi families. On Sunday, October 18, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the abdomen near the “Numma’s” establishment on Onufri Street.

The victim, identified as the son of Xhevdet Kelmendi, was transported to the Peja Regional Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Medical reports indicate his condition is currently stable and he is out of life-threatening danger.

The suspect, also a minor from the Elshani family, fled the scene following the attack. This incident is part of a documented multi-decade conflict between the two families that has been the subject of intense judicial scrutiny. Previous investigations by EULEX prosecutors detailed a history of violence dating back to 2000, involving dozens of attacks, 23 deaths, and 38 injuries.
