Perikatan Nasional deregistered by Registrar of Societies
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has cancelled the registration of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition under the Societies Act 1966. The decision followed an investigation into explanations submitted by the coalition on October 12, which the RoS determined failed to sufficiently refute the grounds for deregistration. The matter reportedly stems from internal disputes, including a complaint from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) regarding its exclusion from a Supreme Council meeting.
In response, PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced that the coalition will challenge the decision in court. PN is seeking a judicial review and has requested that the deregistration and its effects be suspended pending a court determination. Takiyuddin questioned the timing of the RoS decision, noting it was issued just two days before a scheduled High Court hearing regarding the suspension of the coalition’s activities.
Within the coalition, internal friction has surfaced. Armada Bersatu has criticized the current leadership of PN, alleging that mismanagement and a lack of consensus have contributed to the coalition’s current crisis.
