Pekalongan schools to become water management laboratories
Schools in Pekalongan are being transformed into water management laboratories to provide students and teachers with practical experience in addressing water resource challenges and flood risks. This initiative is a collaboration between the Pekalongan City Education Office (Dindik) and the Dutch organization Blue Deal.
The program integrates water management into both extracurricular and intracurricular activities to strengthen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning. Students will engage in practical exercises, including the development of mini prototypes such as simple pump systems and water management tools. This contextual learning approach is specifically designed to assist schools located in areas prone to flooding and waterlogging.
To support the project, the Education Office has involved 150 representatives from elementary and junior high school teachers and students across Pekalongan. The program includes creativity competitions and best-practice sharing to foster environmental awareness.
