Peking Foreign Studies University launches first Kurdish language department in China
Peking Foreign Studies University has established China’s first department dedicated to Kurdish language and culture. The new four-year undergraduate program, which includes studies in history and geography, has enrolled its first cohort of 11 students.
To support the program, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Peking Foreign Studies University and Salahaddin University, led by Rector Prof. Dr. Kamuran Yunus Emin. Under this agreement, Salahaddin University will send expert academics to China to teach and provide Kurdish books and academic resources to the new department’s library.
The partnership also aims to develop student exchange programs, allowing Chinese students to travel to the Kurdistan Region to gain practical language skills and cultural immersion. Peking Foreign Studies University, which teaches 101 different languages, seeks to strengthen academic ties and linguistic exchange through this initiative.
