Peking University former vice president Ren Yuzhong sentenced to 8 years for bribery

Ren Yuzhong, the former vice president of Peking University, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for bribery. The first-instance verdict was delivered by the Dandong Intermediate People's Court in Liaoning Province.

According to court findings, between 2006 and 2025, Ren utilized his various leadership positions at Peking University—including roles in the personnel department, propaganda department, and as assistant to the president—to assist units and individuals. In exchange, he received illegal payments totaling more than 31.95 million yuan. His influence covered matters such as educational training projects, student admissions, employment, and faculty recruitment.

Ren, who was a former top scorer in the Sichuan provincial college entrance examination, surrendered to authorities voluntarily. The court noted that his voluntary surrender, truthful confession, and the full recovery of illegal gains served as mitigating factors in his sentencing. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 2.6 million yuan. Ren stated in court that he accepts the judgment and will not appeal.
