Peletkie village hosts second Cosmos cum Lekie Cai Festival

The second edition of the 11-day Cosmos (Nraipa) cum Lekie Cai Festival began on October 10 at Peletkie village in the Peren district of Nagaland. Organized by the Lekie Mtei Nko (LMN)—the apex body for the sister villages of Peletkie, Deukwaram, and Lekieram—the event serves as both a cultural and economic showcase.

Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, attended the inaugural program as a special guest. During the event, Meru highlighted the innovative live demonstration of traditional salt preparation, which allows visitors to observe the process without traveling to remote extraction sites. He encouraged the community to modernize and scale the salt-making process and suggested pursuing a geo-tag for the local product to enhance its market potential.

Meru also noted that the village has increased its popularity through social media outreach regarding its unique cosmos plantations, which has helped boost the local micro-economy. He urged the younger generation to preserve the traditions passed down by their elders.
