PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), through its subsidiary PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (PJM), has resumed ship-to-ship (STS) cargo transfer services at the Nipa Transhipment Anchorage Area (NTAA) in Batam, Riau Islands. The service restart began on October 9, 2026.
Located near the Malacca and Singapore Straits, the Nipa area holds a strategic position along one of the world’s busiest international shipping and trade routes. The STS service allows cargo to be transferred directly between vessels without requiring land-based terminals.
The resumption was marked by the arrival of a 25,487 Gross Tonnage (GT) mother vessel, followed by two daughter vessels measuring 30,681 GT and 25,085 GT. Arief Hermawan, President Director of PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim, stated that the move is a strategic step to strengthen maritime services and optimize economic potential from international shipping activities passing through the region.
