Pelion residents prepare legal appeal over spring water management
Zoi Konstantopoulou, president of Plevsi Eleftherias, is scheduled to visit Agios Vlasios in Pelion on September 6 to address the ongoing dispute regarding the management of local spring waters.
The conflict centers on a project by DEYAMB designed to utilize Pelion's spring waters to bolster the water supply for the Volos urban complex. While residents do not dispute the need for water in Volos, they argue that the studies overestimate the actual capacity of the springs. Local residents fear the project will negatively impact irrigation, agricultural production, and the regional ecosystem.
Following the approval of environmental terms by the Decentralized Administration of Thessaly – Central Greece, residents of Lechonia, Agios Vlasios, and other Pelion areas are preparing a legal appeal to the Council of State. Konstantopoulou has taken on the legal representation of the residents of Agios Vlasios and Ano Lechonia.
