Pelister National Park forest fire brought under control
The major forest fire at the foot of Mount Pelister has been brought under control following a 72-hour intensive firefighting operation. The blaze, which primarily affected black and white pine forests, was described by National Park Pelister as one of the most complex of the season due to the difficult terrain and unfavorable weather conditions.
The successful containment involved a coordinated effort between the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, army helicopter units, local firefighting teams from Bitola and Resen, and numerous volunteers. To prevent the fire from spreading, machinery from Bechtel and Enka was utilized to create a firebreak, while an army helicopter dropped three tons of water on critical points to halt the flames.
While the Pelister fire is contained, emergency services remain on the ground to extinguish internal hotspots. Other active wildfires continue to be reported in the municipalities of Vrapčište, Bogovinje, Štip, and Struga.
