Croatia tourism faces backlash over rising prices and service quality

Croatia's tourism sector is facing scrutiny as travelers report rising costs and declining hospitality. Reports indicate that accommodation prices in regions like Istria, Dalmatia, and Kvarner have surged, with some estimates suggesting a 70 percent increase since 2015. One report noted that a family of four could spend approximately 3,800 euros for just four nights of accommodation, a figure comparable to a full week in Rimini, Italy.

Individual tourist accounts highlight various grievances, including high prices for basic food and services, such as 17-euro portions of ćevapi in Split or 30 euros for sunbeds. Some visitors have reported feeling unwelcome due to perceived changes in local attitudes and poor communication from rental hosts.

Other travelers have cited logistical issues, such as a lack of shade in campsites, inadequate Wi-Fi, and steep access to beaches, leading to premature departures. Despite these criticisms, some tourists continue to praise specific local products like Cedevita and the traditional Mediterranean lifestyle.
