Pelješki Bridge to undergo October repairs after crack findings

Micro‑cracks have been detected on the surface concrete layer of all six pillars of the Pelješki Bridge. The cracks are between 3.5 cm and 6 cm deep, and the protective concrete layer is 3.5 cm to 7 cm thick. Hrvatske ceste state that the identified defects do not affect the structural stability of the bridge.

Repairs are scheduled to start in October, after the tourist season, and are expected to last about eight months. Work will be carried out in phases without closing the bridge to traffic; minor lane narrowing may occur. The repair will involve removing the surface concrete layer, installing new concrete reinforced with carbon fibre, and applying a polyurethane protective coating. The bridge remains under a ten‑year guarantee, and the Chinese contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) will bear the repair costs.

Minister Branko Bačić confirmed that safety and the bridge’s construction are not compromised and that traffic will continue to flow normally during the works.
