Peloponnese Committee rejects Megalopoli tire recycling plant

The Peloponnese Regional Committee for Environment and Spatial Planning held its first session with its new composition, chaired by Vice Regional Governor Efstathios Anastasopoulos. During the meeting, Dina Nikolakou was elected as Vice President of the Committee.

A key outcome was the Committee's negative opinion regarding the Environmental Impact Study for a proposed non-hazardous waste processing and end-of-life tire recycling plant in Kokkinitsa, Megalopoli. The decision aligns with a regional strategy to transition Megalopoli toward a sustainable development model that respects the local environment and character.

In contrast, the Committee issued positive opinions for significant tourism investment projects in Ermionida. These plans include hotel and complex tourism developments aimed at enhancing the region's quality as a destination and creating new jobs while adhering to environmental standards.
