Peloponnese Development Plans Focus on Water Access and Astros Bypass

Regional governor Dimitris Ptochos chaired the monitoring committee for the Peloponnese 2021‑2027 development programme, reviewing progress and outlining new priorities. The programme emphasizes expanding access to water, sustainable management of water resources, affordable social housing, and workforce skill development. Funding calls for the second half of 2026 are planned, with an expectation that project inclusions will rise sharply by the first quarter of 2027 as studies and procedures mature. A new Integrated Spatial Investment Strategy is also nearing approval.

In a separate decision, Ptochos approved the inclusion of €1.156 million for expropriation costs in the Peloponnese 2026‑2030 Regional Development Programme to enable the Astros bypass. The bypass will improve road safety on the Tripoli‑Astros corridor, reduce accident rates, and ease summer tourist traffic. The expropriations cover about 117,000 m² and are funded by the National Development Programme.
