Peloponnese tourism highlights traditional villages and natural landscapes
The Peloponnese region in Greece offers diverse natural and historical attractions, ranging from traditional mountain villages to rugged gorges and monastic sites.
In Arcadia, the village of Elliniko (also known as Moulatsi) is noted for its stone houses and cinematic atmosphere. Nearby, the Mainalo mountain area features villages such as Dimitsana, Stemnitsa, and Vythina, which are characterized by traditional architecture and historical significance related to the Greek Revolution.
The Lousios Gorge serves as a major landmark, housing the Moni Timiou Prodromou and Moni Filosofou monasteries. These sites are often referred to as the ‘Mount Athos’ of the Peloponnese due to their deep monastic traditions and dramatic cliffside locations.
In the border region of Ilia and Arcadia, the Charatsari ravine near Nemouta contains a series of eight waterfalls, creating a landscape reminiscent of a tropical forest. This area provides a challenging hiking route through dense vegetation and steep terrain.
