Pelotas to receive R$ 932,000 in federal aid after storm
The Brazilian federal government has authorized the release of R$ 932,842 to the municipality of Pelotas to support Civil Protection and Defense actions. This single-installment funding is intended to address damages caused by a severe storm that struck the city and other southern municipalities on September 21.
The funds must be executed within 180 days according to a decree from the National Secretariat for Civil Protection and Defense. The resources are to be applied following the municipal plan submitted to the Integrated Information System on Disasters (S2iD).
Following the storm, local authorities reported significant destruction, including 101 destroyed homes, damaged roofs, fallen trees, and damage to public infrastructure. The storm also caused interruptions to essential services such as electricity, water, and internet. Pelotas officially declared a state of emergency on September 24 to facilitate recovery efforts.
