Pelt implements new cycle and school street measures
New traffic safety measures have been implemented in Pelt, Belgium, affecting the Saxbylaan and Wegvoeringstraat areas for the 2026-2027 school year.
Starting September 1, Saxbylaan will function as both a cycle street and a school street. As a cycle street, the speed limit is restricted to 30 km/h, and motorists are prohibited from overtaking cyclists. As a school street, motorized traffic is barred during specific morning and afternoon windows on school days to protect students accessing the WICO Juniorcampus.
Additionally, the Wegvoeringstraat pilot project will continue. During designated times on school days, the street will be reserved exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists. Motorized vehicles, excluding emergency services and permitted residents, are prohibited during these periods to address safety concerns caused by narrow sidewalks and high student density during school dismissal.
