Pembroke officials seek update on £10.5m regeneration scheme
Councillors at Pembrokeshire County Council have called for an update regarding the £10.5 million Westgate to Eastgate levelling-up scheme in Pembroke. The funding, awarded in November 2023 through Round 3 of the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, was intended to improve public accessibility, connectivity, and the street environment.
Proposed improvements for the regeneration project include enhanced pedestrian links, improved lighting, street art, and new signage to encourage tourism toward Main Street and the historic Mill Pond. The plan also involves assessing the redevelopment potential of the long-vacant East End school.
During an October meeting, Pembroke Mayor and Councillor Jonathan Grimes requested transparency regarding the allocation of the funds. Specifically, he asked how much of the £10,543,627 grant has been spent to date and where the funding is currently being held.
Pembrokeshire County Council is hosting a public engagement event at Pembroke Town Hall on Wednesday, October 21, to allow residents to share ideas and highlight areas for improvement regarding the local regeneration fund.
