Pembrokeshire Council approves lease for major retailer at former Wilko site

Pembrokeshire County Council has approved a lease proposal for a “major high street retailer” to occupy the vacant former Wilko site at the Riverside Shopping Centre in Haverfordwest.

The building, which has been vacant since Wilko closed in 2023 following its parent company’s administration, was reported to be in a poor state of repair with a deteriorating roof and outdated layout. The council had been unable to fully recover dilapidation costs due to Wilko’s insolvency.

Officials noted that the redevelopment is strategically important for the town to increase footfall, generate rental income, and support wider regeneration. While local speculation has suggested Primark may take over the site, no official announcement regarding the specific retailer has been made.
