Pembrokeshire Council launches council tax premium consultation and reports £6.5 m housing purchases

Pembrokeshire County Council has opened a public consultation on council tax premiums for the 2027‑28 financial year. The draft rates would apply a 125 % premium to second homes and a 300 % premium to properties that have been vacant for two years or more. Residents and stakeholders are invited to submit views by 10 August 2026, with the council planning to decide on the rates at its meeting on 15 October 2026.

In the same period, the council disclosed that it has spent just over £6.5 million on acquiring housing stock. The purchases include several dozen homes across Tenby, Marloes, Pembroke Dock, Haverfordwest and other locations, most of which are funded by grants covering the majority of the costs. An additional purchase of a children’s residential home was also reported.
