Pemex supplier debt: Sheinbaum claims 95% of arrears settled

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has settled approximately 95 percent of its overdue payments to suppliers and service providers. While acknowledging that some debts remain, including those from 2024, she noted that the volume of outstanding payments has significantly decreased.

However, industry representatives and labor unions dispute the completeness of these figures. The Construction Union (COR) claims that significant amounts from 2024 remain unpaid and that micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises are facing a crisis. Similarly, the Mexican Association of Oil Service Companies (Amespac) reports that approximately 27.24 billion pesos in services completed since 2024 cannot yet be invoiced due to administrative delays in Pemex’s recognition processes.

During a recent visit to Tamaulipas, Sheinbaum personally heard complaints from small business owners regarding unpaid services. She emphasized that any work effectively performed must be compensated, asserting that Pemex is continuing to review and process these pending cases.
