Pemex and CFE retirees protest in Veracruz over pension rights

Retirees from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) held a demonstration in Boca del Río, Veracruz, to demand the protection of their acquired labor rights.

The protesters gathered near the Beto Ávila stadium during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s visit to the region. They expressed concerns regarding potential legal modifications that could retroactively affect their pensions and benefits. Specifically, the group highlighted worries surrounding changes to Article 127 of the Constitution, which establishes limits on pensions for federal employees.

Representatives of the National Alliance of Retirees of the CFE, Pemex, and Development Banking sought to ensure that any legal reforms adhere to the principle of non-retroactivity and the principle of progressivity, ensuring that benefits keep pace with the cost of living rather than being diminished by new regulations.
