Pemex and Mexican oil workers union extend pre‑strike period by 30 days
The Sindicato de Trabajadores Petroleros de la República Mexicana (STPRM) voted to extend the pre‑strike period with Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) for an additional 30 days, moving the deadline from 1 August to 31 August. The extension was approved by the union’s 36 sections after a hearing before the Federal Labor Court, citing the lack of a satisfactory salary‑review proposal from Pemex.
The union’s demands include an 8 % increase to the daily wage, a 10 % rise in the basic basket, and adjustments to other benefits to keep pace with inflation. Pemex’s initial offer of a 4.2 % direct salary increase was rejected. President Claudia Sheinbaum has said the dialogue table remains open, urging continued negotiations.
