Pemex debt: Discrepancies emerge over supplier payment claims

President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that approximately 95% of suppliers with overdue payments from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) have been paid. However, this figure has faced scrutiny due to a lack of public documentation to verify the specific metric or denominator used.

Financial reports indicate that Pemex still carries significant debt. As of June 30, 2026, the accounts payable to suppliers amounted to 374,334 million pesos, a reduction from 436,704 million pesos at the end of 2025. This represents a decrease of approximately 14.3%, rather than the 95% cited by the presidency.

In Tabasco, Raúl Guzmán Priego, president of the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial de Tabasco (CCET), noted that while Pemex has begun releasing payments gradually, many local companies still face outstanding debts from 2024, 2025, and 2026. Guzmán Priego emphasized that the lack of liquidity caused by these delays has negatively impacted the operations and stability of companies within the oil sector.
