Pemex to extinguish Las Choapas well fire within two weeks
Pemex director Juan Carlos Carpio Fragoso announced that work to extinguish the fire at the Krem‑1 exploratory well in Las Choapas, Veracruz, will begin on Monday and is expected to be completed within two weeks. The blaze, which has burned for about three months, is currently under operational control and all necessary supplies have been mobilized. Pemex reported that liquids and gases from the well are being safely incinerated, containment pits have been built, and continuous environmental monitoring is in place. No populated settlements exist within a 4‑kilometre radius, and a mobile medical unit continues to provide health services to nearby communities. Coordination with authorities and community outreach are ongoing, following concerns about potential environmental and health impacts raised by residents.
