Penacova to host guided heritage tour for European Heritage Days

The Municipality of Penacova will mark the European Heritage Days on September 26 with the “Conhecer Penacova” (Get to Know Penacova) guided itinerary. Organized by the local government in partnership with the municipal company Penaparque, this free initiative offers a bus tour through the municipality’s primary historical, artisanal, and milling sites.

The guided route includes visits to the Lorvão Monastery Interpretive Center, which focuses on the history of the former female convent and the tradition of conventual sweets, and the Palito Interpretive Center, which showcases the ethnobotanical and artisanal tradition of wooden toothpick making. The tour concludes at the Vitorino Nemésio Windmill Museum in Portela de Oliveira, highlighting regional milling traditions and the local windmill landscape. Participants will also have the opportunity to taste local conventual confectionery. Participation is free but requires mandatory prior registration due to limited capacity.
