Penafiel approves urban requalification of historic center

The municipality of Penafiel, Portugal, has approved a comprehensive urban requalification plan for its historic center. The project targets key areas including Praça do Município, Largo Padre Américo, and several central streets such as Rua da Misericórdia and Rua do Paço.

The initiative aims to modernize public spaces by prioritizing pedestrians and improving safety and comfort. Planned improvements include the installation of new paving, modern urban furniture, expanded public lighting, and the creation of new green spaces. To enhance pedestrian priority, the plan introduces traffic calming measures and restrictions on vehicle access to certain sectors, while maintaining essential logistics for residents, local commerce, and emergency services.
