Penampang police arrest two men for impersonating enforcement officers
Two men, aged 19 and 28, were detained in Penampang after allegedly impersonating enforcement officers to extort a foreign national. The incident occurred around midnight at Kampung Koidupan Sugud.
The suspects, wearing clothing resembling an enforcement agency uniform, approached the victim and demanded identification documents. They claimed the individual had committed an offense by failing to produce a passport and attempted to demand a payment of RM1,500 to resolve the matter.
When the victim requested to see their official authorization cards, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended by local residents before being handed over to the police. Authorities seized several pieces of clothing used to mimic official uniforms.
The case is being investigated under Sections 384 and 170 of the Penal Code for extortion and impersonating a public servant. If convicted under Section 384, the suspects could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, or corporal punishment.
