The Penang State Government has announced a RM50,000 contribution to the Sungai Kluang Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) Marine Unit to assist in the purchase of a firefighting rescue boat.
Announced by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during the inauguration of the new PBS Sungai Kluang Marine Unit station in Bayan Lepas, the funding aims to bolster maritime rescue capabilities. The Chief Minister noted that the unit's establishment is essential given Penang's coastal geography, fishing communities, and maritime tourism activities. He emphasized that water rescue expertise is a vital part of a strengthened disaster preparedness ecosystem.
In addition to the financial contribution, the state government has approved a Temporary Occupation License (TOL) to allow the PBS Sungai Kluang to construct and operate its marine unit center. The initiative is intended to foster community involvement in emergency response and encourage maritime volunteerism among the younger generation.
