Penang health authorities on alert following Kedah rabies death

The Penang state government has confirmed that there are currently no human or animal rabies cases detected in the state. The Penang State Health Department (JKNPP) remains on high alert and in a state of readiness following a recent fatal rabies case in the neighboring state of Kedah, where a 31-year-old man died after being bitten by a stray dog.

State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen stated that the last human rabies cases in Penang were reported in 1975. The state government is currently collaborating with the Department of Veterinary Services to monitor the situation.

Authorities advise the public to follow Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines and seek immediate medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility if bitten by an animal or if exposure to a suspected infected animal is suspected.
