Penang launches 2026 National Month flag‑raising campaign

On 31 July, Penang's Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow presided over the hand‑over of the Jalur Gemilang to 75 agencies – 32 state, 41 federal and two private – as part of the launch of the 2026 National Month and flag‑raising campaign. An 18‑vehicle convoy delivered flags to the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, encouraging citizens to fly the national flag at homes, offices and vehicles.

Chow stressed that the flag symbolizes unity, recalling Malaysia’s history of struggle and sacrifice, and urged people to uphold the country’s independence. He linked the celebration to Penang’s economic role, noting the state contributes over 6% of Malaysia’s GDP and nearly 38% of the nation’s export value, driven by its electronics and semiconductor sectors. The campaign adopts the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati,” promoting peace, stability and inclusive progress.
