Penang PIL2A highway project reaches 29.85% completion
The first phase of the Pan Island Link 2A (PIL2A) highway project has reached 29.85% completion, currently running 0.42% ahead of schedule as of late August. The RM420 million infrastructure project aims to provide a direct connection between Penang island and Silicon Island.
Construction involves a 1.5km road and a marine bridge utilizing a ‘balanced cantilever beam’ structure. Work is currently active on the substructure, including pile caps and columns, in both marine and land areas at Permatang Damar Laut. For the superstructure, 25 of the required 260 T-beams have completed the casting process.
The marine bridge is expected to open to the public in stages, with the first section anticipated in December 2028. The full PIL2A project is targeted for completion by June 2029. Authorities emphasized that site safety, operational controls, and environmental management remain priorities, alongside ongoing communication with local residents regarding potential road diversions.
