Penang targets 60 gold medals at SUKMA 2026, offers up to RM10,000 per gold

The Penang contingent, comprising about 886 athletes, officials and coaches, has set a goal of winning 60 gold medals at the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) to be held in Selangor from 15 to 24 August 2026. The state previously secured 41 golds at the last edition. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the target is "challenging but meant to fire the athletes' spirit" and will serve as a motivator for the team.

Penang will reward gold‑medal winners with a tiered cash incentive: RM4,000 per gold for up to 39 golds, RM6,000 for 40‑49, RM8,000 for 50‑59, and RM10,000 for each gold if the 60‑gold target is reached or exceeded.
