Penang targets Silicon Island industrial land sales for 2027
Penang authorities aim to begin selling the first industrial plots on Silicon Island as early as the first quarter of 2027. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that development in the coming year will focus on the 700-acre Green Tech Park, which is designed to attract investments in semiconductors, integrated circuit design, medical devices, and automated test equipment.
The first factory on the reclaimed development is expected to begin operations in 2028. As of October, 500 acres have been reclaimed, representing approximately 39.4% of the first 1,270-acre phase. The site is intended to serve manufacturers that benefit from proximity to the Penang International Airport and rely on air freight.
Infrastructure development is also underway, including the preparation of a site for the Mutiara Line light rail transit depot and the construction of road access and a marine bridge connecting to the island.
