PenCom extends online pension verification deadline to December

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has extended the deadline for its mandatory online pension verification and enrolment exercise to December 31. The initiative targets employees of treasury-funded Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) who are entitled to accrued pension rights.

The extension follows requests from MDAs for more time and is prompted by low participation rates. As of July, while MDAs had uploaded 62,320 records, only 31,099 employees had successfully completed the enrolment process. This represents approximately 21 percent of the estimated 150,000 active Federal Government employees eligible for these rights.

The exercise aims to accurately determine and settle pension liabilities carried over from the former Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), which preceded the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) introduced in 2004. Under the Pension Reform Act 2014, eligible employees are entitled to benefits earned from their initial appointment date up to June 30, 2004.
