Pendennis Castle steam locomotive to visit Nene Valley Railway

The Nene Valley Railway in Peterborough will host the historic steam locomotive No. 4079 Pendennis Castle as part of its 2026 Christmas programme. The Castle Class engine, built in 1924 at Swindon Works, is visiting through the cooperation of the Didcot Railway Centre.

During December, the locomotive will haul selected Santa Specials. It is scheduled to remain at the railway into early 2027, offering various experiences including driving sessions, a Fish and Chip train, and the Winter Warmer service.

Pendennis Castle is noted for its significant history, including famous trials against the Flying Scotsman and over twenty years of service in Australia. It was the seventh of 171 Castle Class locomotives produced by the Great Western Railway.
