Peneda-Gerês National Park inaugurates Pier Giorgio Frassati hiking trail

A new 10-kilometer loop trail dedicated to Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati has been inaugurated in the Peneda-Gerês National Park, located in Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal. The trail, which features a 560-meter elevation gain, circles the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peneda.

The initiative was organized by the Portuguese Alpine Club, making it the first country to join the international network of Frassati trails following an invitation from the Italian Alpine Club. The project aims to connect people to the transcendent through mountaineering and hiking, inspired by the life of the young saint who was a dedicated alpinist.

Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, noted that the trail allows more people to find inspiration in Frassati’s life through outdoor activities. The inauguration follows the canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati.
