Two horses die in Penedo, Brazil during Santo Antônio Cavalgada

Video footage from a monitoring camera in Penedo's Barro Vermelho neighborhood shows a white horse startled, pulling another horse that fell and hit its head, dying on the spot during the 16th edition of the Santo Antônio Cavalgada on 2 August. Event organizer Jorge Augusto released the video to clarify that the deaths were accidental, not the result of mistreatment.

The municipality’s Environment and Water Resources Secretariat has opened a parallel investigation to determine responsibility, while the local police have not yet been formally notified. Organizers, including Crysllayne Farias, maintain that the horses suffered sudden health issues and were cared for, denying any abuse.
