Penedès Contra el Càncer launches archery project for breast cancer patients
The organization Penedès Contra el Càncer has launched ‘Arc i Vida’ (Bow and Life), an archery initiative designed for individuals with breast cancer. The project aims to improve quality of life and help prevent lymphedema, a common complication following certain cancer treatments.
Based at L’Escarnosa in Calafell, the sessions are technically supported by the Club de Tir amb Arc Baix Penedès. The initiative combines adapted physical activity with social support to help participants regain confidence. Dr. Santos López, an oncology surgeon, noted that regular exercise can reduce recurrence risks and improve survival rates, provided the activity is supervised and adapted to individual needs.
The project was made possible through collaboration with the Calafell City Council, the Sardà family, and funding from the Pinnae Foundation via its ‘Impuls pel Territori’ call. Participants also benefit from the involvement of international medalist Maria Pitarch.
